The #GreatBigCrunch is back this February, March, and April! Get your apples, bananas, and vegetables ready and come crunch or munch with folks coast-to-coast-to coast to show your support for healthy food at schools.
On March 14, 2025 Food For All is inviting New Brunswickers to take a #GreatBigCrunch to make some noise and celebrate recent federal and provincial school food program commitments in NB!
The GBC —organized by the National Coalition for Healthy School Food— is a national movement and annual moment of anti-silence in which students, teachers, parents and others passionate about school food crunch into apples (or other crunchy fruit or vegetable) to make noise for healthy school food. The theme of this year’s GBC is local procurement.
Last year, New Brunswick had the largest number of participants by province/territory in Canada and this year we hope to be even bigger! Food For All NB will be hosting a livestream at 9:00 AM on March 14th where special guests will be speaking on the significance of these investments and how they will impact children and youth, families, educators, and communities across our province. While fresh and local apples are the popular product of choice for this year’s Great Big Crunch, you are invited to Crunch or Munch into any nutritious food of your choice.
In order to coincide with Nutrition Month (which is all the month of March), we recognize that this year, the Great Big Crunch in New Brunswick falls within Ramadan (February 28-March 29). We warmly welcome individuals observing Ramadan to participate in a way that feels comfortable and in alignment with their practice. This might mean:
• Participating in the Great Big Crunch first thing in the morning before resuming fasting.
• Participating in the Great Big Crunch after Iftar.
• Children, who are not required to fast, may participate without any concerns.
Folks who cannot fast for any reason are welcome to participate as they choose.
